7" Vinyl single (limited to 300 copies)
“In preparation for tour in fall of 2011 I made some demos to give to my bandmates Nick and Julia to help them learn the new songs. I did it on Garageband really quickly, using a MIDI keyboard so I could print sheet-music for them. The vocals were just quickly recorded through the computer mic as a guide and I added the strange effects for fun. Later, I added more vocal lines to "The Place I Live" as a guide for Allyson in the studio.
After listening to these strange synthetic versions for a few days I almost liked them more than the "real" versions (which appear on my new album "Clear Moon"). The inhuman voice and robotic drift of the MIDI strings sound like a communication from another world. I have always recorded music so extremely analog and it's a strange new novelty to be exploring synthetic sounds, even as a sloppy amateur.
Is this a new era for me? It seems like a perfect fit with Tomlab's flavor of semi-synthetic alien transcendence.”
