MARK ROBINSON

Since the mid-'80's, Mark Robinson has been a fixture in the independent music scene in the USA. With his label Teenbeat (founded in 1984) and his band Unrest (1982), he lay the grounds for a singular music scene in the Washington DC area that melded the sound of the burgeoning indie-pop movement with the aethetics of English labels (e.g. Factory, 4AD) and the smart-mindedness of Dischord Records. At the beginning of the '90's, Unrest enjoyed wide success with singles on Sub Pop, Calvin Johnson's K Records, and albums such as "Imperial f.f.r.r." (Teenbeat) and "Perfect Teeth" (4AD). Unrest toured with Stereolab, Throwing Muses and the Breeders, and were widely acclaimed by European music magazines. He later went on to form indie bands Air Miami, Grenadine, and Flin Flon.
